Advancing toward international standards

As Vietnam moves into a new development era, it needs to strengthen its healthcare system as a pillar of social security and human development, an insurer of health security, and a key service sector contributing to economic growth.

To do this, Vietnam is strengthening its grassroots healthcare system, upgrading equipment and infrastructure at district health centers and commune health stations, and ensuring that qualified doctors and medical staff are available in remote areas. Vietnam is also improving vaccination and preventive healthcare programs, expanding immunization coverage to ensure that all children receive full vaccinations. Vietnam is promoting disease prevention and primary healthcare measures to minimize illnesses.

At a meeting with healthcare representatives in Hanoi on Wednesday, President Luong Cuong said:"We must improve the quality of specialized healthcare, invest in central and provincial hospitals, and master modern medical technologies to enhance healthcare services to international standards. At the same time, we need to accelerate digital transformation in the health sector, apply information technology in health management, expand telemedicine, and optimize medical services to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and create greater convenience for the public."

To support disadvantaged groups, the Ministry of Health is refining health insurance policies and expanding financial support for patients with severe illnesses. Vietnam is also strengthening its legal framework for healthcare, developing a comprehensive strategy for public health, and fostering international cooperation to integrate global advancements into its medical system.
